Smitty's team bring together the best of their technical knowledge, experience, professionalism, and love of racing to form Smitty's Motorsports. The results can be seen across America, on the tracks of NASCAR, and in the streets of its home in Mooresville, North Carolina -- Race City USA.
Smitty's 25 plus year career began at age 12, sanding cars in his next-door neighbor's body shop. With "bondo in his blood," Smitty then did collision work and painting in his own foreign car shop, working his magic on such beauties as Lamborghini's, Rolls Royce's and Mazzerati's. His Love of cars goes beyond these though. He has built street rods and classics from the first nut to the last bolt. Completing cars for Pete Rose, Elvis, Dusty Rhodes, Don Miller and Rusty Wallace. Smitty has also done work for Rusty Wallace's Penske Racing South team since 1992 and SuperTrucks for Penske during the 1996 NACAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Soon after working together at Penske South Racing in 1996, Smitty and Michael Bonds decided to form a partnership in a paint and body shop specializing in race car paint and bodywork. Motorsports Image Paint & Body was born in September of 1997. As times change so do business interests. In 2004 Smitty and Michael decided to go separate ways. The two are still friends. Smitty formed Smitty’s Motorsports and maintained the exact standards and service that his former company was founded on.
Today Smitty’s Motorsports is turning out the very best in race car paint and bodywork as well as the continued development and supply of racing promotional pieces. The team at Smitty’s is producing fine customs and complete restorations. The collision work is geared towards “Guys in the know.” Smitty’s is the place to take your baby when you can’t trust just any insurance shop.
